Sorry I didn't get this in yesterday.
I recently came across an interesting phenomenon. There are a number of teachers in the university system who are not teachers; they are masters in their field (sometimes), but they do not teach well. There are several teachers who either come from the industry or are freshly dubbed "Doctor" who get jobs because of their "expertise." But they often have few teaching skills.
My Economics teacher would be a great junior high or high school teacher, but she's not a good college professor. She seems very ADD and often gets distracted and loses her train of thought. My Health psychology teacher [stutters, says um and uh a lot, and changes his thought mid-sentence] all at the same time. And my MGMT 3330 teacher over-explains everything a dozen times and goes off on tangets way too often. All of these teachers are very knowledgeable, but they often cannot properly teach the topic.
This perturb me. Before hiring people, the school should at least verify their teaching abilities. If we REALLY want them to teach, then we should train them or something. I mean, seriously!
