The eagle has landed...

...on Peter's shoulder.

My dad has been in the Air National Guard and US Air Force Reserves for about 24 years now. He started out flying the F-4 Phantom in the Missouri ANG, then switch to doing social work in the USAFR, and is now working for the Air Intelligence Agency (USAFR).

He was activated after 9/11 and served for about a year and a half. Then he volunteered to go active all summer at AIA. He is an IMA Reservist, meaning that he's not attached to any one unit; he just sort of floats around. Lots of medical people are like this, as they just go where they're needed. This year, he was selected as the IMA Reservist of the year! Congrats, Pops!

Then, he was up for promotion this year from Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel (which is just below General) and didn't expect much. I think only about 8% of the military holds the Colonel rank. Since he's a reservist, he wasn't exactly holding his breath. But on Tuesday, we found out he was promoted!!! Can you believe it?!?! Hooray Peter!

His present rank has nothing to do with whether or not I'll be saluting him one day. He's high enought that I'll salute him no matter what rank he is.

And...yes. I hope so.
