Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!

Pastor Dave had some interesting things to say yesterday at church. It seems that Christmas has become the season for blinders. That is, blinders on our eyes. We get so caught up in planning parties, picking the right presents, traveling, money problems, etc. that we totally forget about why we have a Christmas in the first place: to remember the birth of our Savior.

It has also become the season for uncontentedness. I don't know if he made that word up, but I like it. We always want more. We see a present someone else got and want it also; we want our presents to be better than our brother's or sister's; we always think our pile of presents is missing just a couple, when it never really is. Why can't we ever be satisfied with what we have? [stupid human nature]

I also learned some things about the Magi spoken of in Matthew 2. It turns out that Magi were probably more like astronomers than "wise men" or "kings." It is difficult to describe them exactly, but that's probably it. And since they came from the east, they were probably from present-day Iran or something. I now completely understand why they would be following a star - that's what astronomers do! They study stars! It all makes sense now!

In other news, my mom told me about this friend of a friend who she is now friends with who thinks my mom is a dream interpreter. But she isn't. You see, friend A tells friend B about something that happened in her life, then friend B tells my mom. Later on, friend A has a dream about something and tells my mom. But the dream is obviously about the story friend A told friend B earlier, so that's what my mom says. Then friend A bursts into tears, as she is in awe of my mom's "God-given ability" to interperate dreams. Hahahaha. It's great.
