What else is there to do when you can't sleep but pray? That's what I do when I can't sleep - I chat with the big guy upstairs. I like being the guy people go to when they need someone to listen. But what do you do when people stop coming? I still pray for people, but it's harder to know what to pray for because they don't tell me much anymore. What else do you do except try to look around and read people? I thought I was good at that, but I have clearly missed some things in my friends recently.
A couple of my friends have had/are having tough times this semester. I want to help them, but how can I? Especially when I don't know they're even having trouble in the first place? This is hard for me because I don't usually get emotionally attached to people. It's just not in my nature. I complain to God about not having a "super-close best friend" all the time, but it's probably my own fault. The only thing I can do is ask God to be there for them (and me).
I was just trying to explain to God why people need Him: because He's the best. He's so great and powerful and awesome. But that didn't seem good enough. Is there a better word than "best"? Sort of. On Thesaurus.com we see words like ace, chief, finest, highest, optimum, outstanding, perfect, super, and tops. My favorites are: beyond compare, incomparable, matchless, unparalleled, and supreme. But even those don't seem to show how gloriously magnificent God is.
Maybe we need a new word. How about the first: glorificent? What do you think of suprorious for "supremely glorious"? Or magnitimum for "magnificently optimum"? Or how about perfegasm for "an orgasm of perfection"? (Yes, I just said "orgasm", but look at the third definition on the first entry)
God is so great that there isn't a word capable of describing it. He can do things we don't even think are possible. He is with us always, He never leaves us. Never. He's like Superman: when we need Him, we just have to call out, and He'll come flying in for the rescue....usually.
It's funny how God only helps us when He feels like it. I mean, He has this Master Plan, that He keeps secret from, well, everyone, but it's got to be for the best. Isn't that the whole idea of organized religion? I often don't understand why things happen or why people feel and do certain things, but it doesn't matter. There's a reason for it all. We don't always understand the reasons in the now, but we will in the future. God has this nasty habit of only letting us know what we need to know when we need to know it. I hate that about Him. I want to know everything now! I guess that's what makes Him omnicielicious. (yes? no?)
Anyway, for those out there who feel alone or let down by God sometimes, know this: He's there for you. I know that doesn't sound like much, but it's the best I've got. God is the best at help and support. He's the best at goodness. He's the best at being wonderful and perfect. He's the best friend. He's the best listener. He's the best advice-giver. He's the best at being there exactly when we need Him. He's the best parent. He's the best teacher. He's the best at life. He's the best everything. He's the best at being there for you (even when you don't think so).
But then again, "best" just isn't good enough.
