Planes, Programs, and Bounty Hunting?

Well, I finally did it. As most of you know, I've been saying that I'm going to join the Air Force. But I never really put much action to my words. That is, until now.

Last week, I started making some calls to various USAF recruiters. I finally called who I was supposed to call (twice), but never got a response. So on Tuesday, I just showed up. I spent about 2 hrs at a recruiting office doing some paperwork and...yadda yadda yadda...I'm taking the test next Friday.

The Air Force Officer Qualifying Test, that is (AFOQT). You cannot be an officer in the Air Force without passing this test. If I pass, my physical exam is scheduled. If I pass that, my info goes to the Board of Review to be selected for a pilot slot. If selected, I'll choose/be assigned an Officer Training School (OTS) session, which would last a number of weeks. And somewhere in there would be a test to check my pilot-related knowledge and skills.

If for some reason I fail any one of those, I will probably try either the Navy or Marines, as they also have fighter jet units. (that's what I want to fly)

* * * * *

In other news, I'm about to start a part-time job with the company I used to work for, Acoustic Dimensions. Actually, it will officially be with Strategic Dimensions, a sister company, but they're both in the same office, and I think they even share employees. I'll be doing similar things as I've done before there - computer programming.

On a related topic, I'm finishing up work on a web-based program with a co-worker at JS, Daron. Daron's a great guy. And a bounty hunter. That's right, he's a licensed bounty hunter. The problem is that bounty hunters are given stacks and stacks of random papers loosely organized about the folks they're supposed to go find. Daron has wanted to create a website where you can enter in all the information into a database. Genius! I know about SQL Servers, he knows a bit about web sites, so we're going it duo. It's pretty basic, really, which is good since I haven't coded in about 2 years. It's also a good warm-up for the part-time job I'll be starting next week.

That is so awesome, Ben! I hope you do well. God will put you where he wants you. :) And JEEZ LAWEEZE!! almost every stinkin' guy in our family is a pilot or military. How fun. I think it would be cool to get my pilots license when I'm older and actually have a steady income and such. I'll be praying for ya cuz!
