Run The Rock

Yesterday, I ran the rock. And then I walked it.

I was part of a 5-man relay team that completed the 26.2-mile marathon in Dallas yesterday morning. I was the second leg, and ran the shortest distance of 4 miles. But since I've been training for only 3 miles for the Marines, it was a bit tiring. The other guys have been training for like 10 or something, so 5 or 6 miles wasn't too bad for them. I was running late, so I just parked my car at the first hand-off point -- mile 6. There were buses to shuttle people around after each leg, so I was going to get a ride back to my car and head home.

But it turns out they only take you back to the starting point. Crap. I could (a) wait for the bus to fill up to get a ride back and wait for a couple hours for my team to finish and take me to my car or (b) walk back the same way I just ran, which would probably only take about an hour. Naturally, I chose (b). So I ran 4 miles in just over 30 minutes, then walked 4 miles in about an hour. My legs hurt today.

But it was fun. I got a shirt and a medal. Oh, and our team finished in 3:59:15. That's about a 9-minute mile on average. Not too bad.
