Parking in Driveways....Not

Why is it that everyone only parks in their own driveway? I'm in a book study with the other CollegeLife interns, and we've been going over to Jeff's house every week to discuss and chat and eat and relax. I've noticed that no one ever parks in Jeff's driveway. It's big enough for four cars, but Jeff's is the only one ever there!

I started thinking, and I realized that this seems quite common. Normally, when you go visit someone else's house, you'll park on the street in front of the house. If both sides fill up, you park at the neighbor's house or the next house, and so on and so on. But no one ever parks in the driveway. Why? Where are they going to go? It's their house. They're hosting the gathering. If they think the party's bad enough to leave, we should all leave anyway.

It's very strange. Any ideas?

LOL! I think I hear a Seinfeld episode coming on in your brain...

But, back to the point...the reason is because of just what you said...it is THEIR driveway. The street is public and belongs to everyone, but not the driveway. Yes, it is for cars, but so is the homeowner's shower for washing...and I wouldn't just go in and start showering without asking.

The key is to always get permission from the homeowner in advance...or on the spot. "OK to park in your driveway or would you prefer I use the street?"

Then they have the choice over their property. Maybe Aunt Mildred is coming to the party too and she needs the driveway for her Lark Scooter?? Who knows?
