North Texas Eagle Association

Ryan Nelson and I have decided to create a new student organization here on campus. The NTEA is for UNT Eagle Scouts get together and do the things we love to do - hiking, boating, burning stuff, rock climbing, etc. And, oh yeah, we'll be under the disguise of a "service organization."

OK, OK...just kidding.

We will mainly be a service organization, helping out with local troops. We'll basically be extra adults for them - attending meetings and campouts, teaching skills when needed, and bringing our knowledge and experience to them. For example, I am an NRA-certified rifle and shotgun instructor, which is required by the BSA to teach the merit badges. Since not many people are certified, I would be a great help to a troop who wants to do the rifle and/or shotgun merit badges. Ryan is certified to teach rock climbing. He would be a huge help if a troop wants to go rock climbing or rapelling. All of us have some skill that we can bring to the table. We're all good teachers and leaders, just based on the fact that we're all Eagles.

So far, I have 7 YESs and 1 MAYBE (including Ryan and me). That's pretty cool. Tomorrow, we'll meet to discuss the details of our org, write a constitution, fill out the proper paper work, etc. I'm stoked. This is awesome. Now, all we need is a full-time employee of the university to be our advisor.

But we'll also do stuff we want to do. [sweet!]

To be continued...

This idea rocks. I didn't know you were NRA certified rifle guy. That's really cool.
