Gas prices

Better technology causes higher gas prices.

I think it's true. The more fuel-efficient cars we produce, the less gas we use - or at least we use the same amount of gas, but less often. Thus, the oil and gas companies lose out on significant profits. If your current car gets around 20 mpg, and you go out and buy a new car with about 30 mpg, you just reduced your annual fuel costs by 33%. If a typical tank of gas is $50, you are basically saving $16.67 per tank over the year (in a round-about sort of way). You can see how that would add up quickly per person per year. And that's just with automobiles! Think of how electric or more fuel-efficient motors in industry would add to this!

Oil and gas companies are just like any other company - they exist to make a profit. If their profit starts to slide, they figure out ways to raise it up again. Today, this means higher prices at the pump. So I say unto you: quit your whining. Higher gas prices is your fault!

Hooray capitalism!
