The Mom Perspective

Ben mentioned that I might post to his Blog now and then to put forth "the mom" perspective on what it's like for him to be off to the Marines. As he's starting out, I'd say his dad and I have had what I imagine to be the somewhat typical reactions - ranging from pride and excitement to joy that he's following his dream...and fear that he's following his dream (mostly the mom and not the dad on that last one). :-) The biggest thing for me so far has been coming to the surprising realization that when I'm a little emotional about him leaving Dallas, it's because I'm not only saying good bye to a son that I love, but also to a friend who I really like! Very cool to actually enjoy spending time with one's kids!
